How To Repair A Phillips Screw After It Has Been Stripped?

Aug 26, 2024

When a Phillips Screw has been stripped, you can try the following repair methods:
1. Use a rubber pad: Put a rubber pad of the right size, such as a rubber band or a rubber sheet, on the screwdriver head to increase the friction between the screwdriver and the screw, and then try to screw out the screw.

2. Apply glue: Apply some strong glue, such as 502 glue, on the screw head, and then quickly insert the screwdriver into the cross slot. Wait for the glue to solidify before trying to screw out the screw. But be careful to control the amount of glue to avoid the glue flowing into the thread and affecting subsequent use.

3. Re-carve the cross slot: Use a small electric drill and a suitable drill bit to carefully re-carve a deeper cross slot on the screw head, and then use a screwdriver of matching size to try to screw it out.

4. Welding method: If there is enough space on the screw head, you can weld a cross bar or nut on the screw head to increase the force point, and then screw out the screw through the cross bar or nut.

5. Use a broken screw extractor: This is a tool specifically used to remove stripped or broken screws. Insert the tip of the broken screw extractor into the head of the screw with the thread stripped, and then follow the instructions for the tool to rotate counterclockwise to remove the screw.

6. Destroy the screw: If none of the above methods work and the position of the screw allows, you can consider using an angle grinder or electric drill to destroy the screw head to remove the screw. However, this method may cause some damage to surrounding parts and needs to be operated with caution.
It should be noted that when performing repair operations, the appropriate method should be selected according to the specific situation and operated carefully to avoid further damage to the parts.
